Grades of Teak
1. Grade “A” Teak
Highest quality teak, taken from the heartwood (center) of mature teak trees.
Golden brown color, consistent grain, and high natural oil content.
Very resistant to water, rot, insects, and decay—ideal for marine use and high-end applications.
Smooth texture and minimal knots or imperfections.
Most expensive and often used for yacht decks, fine furniture, and luxury interiors.
2. Grade “B” Teak
Sourced from the outer heartwood or less mature trees.
Lighter in color with some variation in grain.
Lower oil content than Grade A, so less naturally resistant to weather and pests (but still durable).
May have more knots, discoloration, or uneven grain.
Commonly used for indoor furniture or semi-exposed areas.
3. Grade “C” Teak
Taken from the sapwood (outermost part of the log), which is softer and lighter.
Pale color, inconsistent grain, and very low oil content.
Prone to weather damage, warping, and rot if left untreated.
Often used for budget furniture or non-structural applications.
Not recommended for outdoor or marine use unless heavily treated.
